Buying a laptop, it's an almost inevitable process for this technology age. It's not necessarily about choosing “where” you get a laptop, but “when”. Granted, practically 100% of the computer stores that exist have sales. Utilize these to you're advantage. Since I recently purchased a laptop, I will share with you my steps in making sure you get a great product at an acceptable price.
1. Don't have a particular brand in mind. Being biased towards a particular brand can cloud you're judgment on the price, and could effectively cause you to get something that's a lot of money, but doesn't offer a lot in service.
2. Shop around. I know this is an easy one, but you have to shop around. Between me shopping at Walmart, Best Buy, and Staples, I found the same laptop, but with a difference in price of over 160 dollars. (Staples was the cheapest oddly enough).
3. Utilize Holiday sales. Don't just use an ad book from the Sunday paper. If you know there's a big holiday coming up ie: Labor Day, President's Day, or the upcoming 4th of July, be patient and wait until those days. Since these aren't traditionally “shopping” holidays, you are bound to find a lot more products than you would if were to shop during the Christmas or god awful “Black Friday” holidays.
4. Ask around. Work in an office? Now someone who has a laptop or is a computer nerd (like me)? Ask them where they do their shopping. Do they have any recommendations?
5. Shop online. Store fronts are great for getting something immediately, but if you can wait a couple days on the shipping, shopping online can blow store fronts out of the water. Also, if you shop during the holiday seasons online, some stores like Staples and Best Buy offer “Online Discounts Only”. Meaning, the suckers who are waiting outside in the snow and rain wouldn't be able to get an additional discount on the same laptop you are purchasing.
I hope these 5 tips can help you in purchasing a laptop, or any other piece of expensive technology.
Just to let you know, I purchased an ACER 5100 15.4 inch screen from Staples.com during President's Day this year, regular price was $899 I got it for $499, plus, because I bought it online, I got free shipping and a 1 gig thumbdrive.
Utilize your options, think clearly, don't take any crap from sale representatives, and you'll be fine. Happy shopping!

If you have an Acer laptop, then it is in important that you have the correct drivers installed for your laptop to work correctly. If you don't have the latest drivers installed, you may face problems while you are trying to do certain activities on your laptop. For example, you may not be able to browse the internet properly or see a video online, your computer may become very slow, etc. When people face such problems, they usually think that their Acer laptop has got some big problem. However most of the times it is a simple case of installation of incorrect drivers that is causing the problem. Downloading and installing the latest drivers will usually solve the problem.
How To Download Latest Acer Drivers for Your Laptop?
Downloading and installing the latest drivers is usually a very simple process that can be accomplished by anyone with minimal computer knowledge. However, if you do not have computer knowledge it is recommended that you use some software to download and install the latest drivers on your laptop. Softwares like DriverCure are excellent for downloading and installing the latest Acer drivers. Moreover downloading and installing driver with DriverCure is absolutely free and will not cost you anything.
Softwares like DriverCure work by scanning your laptop and making a list of devices and drivers already present on your machine. Then they connect to the website offering Acer drivers to check if there are updates available for any drivers. If the updates are available, then the software downloads and installs them on your laptop.
If you are computer savvy then you can download and install the Acer drivers on your laptop by yourself. It is a simple process
1) Make a list of devices present on your laptop.
2) Check the drivers details for the drivers that are already installed on your laptop. In particular you need to note down the driver name and version.
3) Check online for updates available for the drivers. Locate a good website that offers Acer laptop drivers. Make sure that the website is reputed so that you do not download any virus, adware, malware or Trojan by mistake. You may also download the drivers directly from the Acer website.
4) Download the drivers and install them as per instructions given on the website.
5) Reboot your laptop and you are done.
As you can see from the above list, downloading and installing Acer drivers is not a difficult task. You just need to identify the drivers that need upgrading so that your laptop starts working smoothly without any problem.

Entertainment notebooks have become wildly popular since the drastic price reductions of high definition televisions. Unfortunately because of their great versatility and performance the prices of the high end entertainment notebooks have stayed at a premium. With the HP Pavilion DV6871US this isn't the case as it has dropped below $1000 and as a result it has been flying off the shelves. I've taken this opportunity to get my hands on one and give it a review. I'm going to let you know if it really lives up to its hype or if it is a bust. Let me get started by popping the hood.
Hardware
Processor: 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5550
Storage Space: 320GB hard drive
RAM: 3GB RAM (expandable to a 4GB maximum)
Optical Drive: CD R / RW with and integrated dual-layer DVD +/- R RW drive
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS graphics (up to 1535 MB of shared and dedicated video RAM)
Weight and Dimensions: 14″ x 10″ x 1.5″ and weighs in at 6.14lbs
The first thing you notice when this 15″ beast comes out of the box is not only the wave imprint on the bezel but that it is relatively light for such a large notebook. It weighs in just over 6lbs which is impressive when you consider most comparable multimedia notebooks are around 7lbs. The 1280 x 800 WXGA widescreen 15.4″ LCD is the next thing that stands out. The screen is bright and glossy giving it a crisp look.
The performance is great with the relatively strong Intel processor backed with the 3GB of RAM and the large 320GB hard drive. I love the high end mobile graphics card which when combined with a large high definition LCD television really makes games look great. This notebook can replace a number of components in your living room starting with the DVR (thanks to integrated features in Windows Vista which comes preloaded). While all of that is fun, it also does a great job with word processing, making PowerPoint's, and even operates Photoshop flawlessly.
Connectivity
3 2.0 USB ports (These are used to connect things like MP3 players, printers, and digital cameras)
1 FireWire port (this is used for high speed data transfer between things like digital camcorders and other PCs)
1 HDMI port (so it can be connected to high definition televisions)
1 VGA output (a typical computer monitor port)
1 S-Video output (this is used to connect the laptop with projectors and some compatible televisions)
1 ExpressCard (so you can add other devices like a cellular modem)
2 audio out and 1 mic in
1 IR receptor (for the included remote control)
5 in 1 memory card reader (so you can remove the solid state memory card from your digital camera and directly insert it into your notebook)
Integrated Wireless
Integrated BlueTooth
1 Ethernet port (to connect to wired LANs)
56K modem port (so you can dial up with this notebook)
The connectivity of this notebook is great and has everything I would expect from a high end entertainment notebook. The HP Pavilion DV6871US is a great deal at just under $1000. I don't foresee it dropping in price much below $1000, if anything it may fluctuate above that figure from time to time. This notebook would make anyone happy. It is mobile enough to go on the road pleasing the student or business professional, yet it is also powerful enough to take its place in your living room entertainment center.

It’s a fact. The Notebook Computer is shrinking. Most of today’s computer customers probably don’t remember back when a portable computer was the size of a large briefcase, complete with handle. Many of them probably don’t even remember the days when a 12″ LCD screen was considered large, and seven or eight pounds was thought of as light weight.
These days, Notebook Computers come as small as seven or eight inches across, and many average three pounds or less. Computers are getting smaller, lighter, and easier to move, for a society on the go. Here’s a look at the phenomenon of Small Notebook Computers, and what you should look for when you buy.
Why Buy Small Notebook Computers?
So, why should you look at a small notebook, anyhow? If you’re one of the thousands of people on the market for a new computer, there are three main factors. The first one is price. These smaller computers are lower performing than many of their competitors. They aren’t going to run all the latest games or do any processing intensive work.
But, for most people who just want to do some word processing, chat with friends, and play a few low intensity casual games on the go, the price is right. You can get a Small Notebook Computer (netbook) for five or six hundred dollars, or even less. A larger notebook will start at double that.
Portability is another big plus. Five or six pounds of laptop computer might not seem like much, until you’ve walked a mile with it hanging off one shoulder. Then you realize that lighter Small Notebook Computers have a real advantage. Many of them don’t even require their own computer case. They come with small foam cases to protect them inside your messenger bag, backpack or purse. Just put the computer inside and go. Of course, for longer trips or more secure carrying, a proper laptop bag or backpack is probably a smart idea.
Last, but not least, Small Notebook Computers are convenient. Unlike a larger notebook or a desktop, they can be there when you need them. That means it’s easier than ever to take your work with you, whether it’s to a friend’s house, on the plane, or down the street to the local coffee shop. You don’t have to wonder if that email has arrived, wait to get home to check on your package, or sit bored when you have work to do, just because your old computer is too inconvenient. Small laptop computers are the answer to all your problems.
Students, freelance writers, and business people all love these little computers. But they need to know that their machines are going to do what they want them to, and so do you. That means that before you buy, you need to take a look at the technical specifications for the computer you’re thinking about. Take the time to check out a few laptop reviews, too.
They’ll tell you what problems people have had with a given model and what works well for them. There are listings for keyboard size, graphics and sound card type, processor, memory and many other tech specs. All you have to do is a little comparison to find the one you want. Look into construction quality, too – some have complained about lower end machines feeling “flimsy” or too light. A few dollars more could get you a machine that performs comparably but lasts a lot longer.
What They Won’t Do
A Small Notebook Computer isn’t everyone’s perfect choice. After all, some things have to be sacrificed for small size and light weight. These include a little bit of performance, screen size, and sometimes keyboard size. The tiniest computers might have cramped keyboards, which typists can find annoying. They also feature relatively small screens that make them sub-optimal for group movie watching, and don’t have the graphics cards or the processor speed to play the latest games.
They’re never going to replace your top of the line desktop, with its giant screen and great processing capability. If you need to do lots of typing, require good processor performance and lots of memory, or want to spend a lot of your time watching movies with friends, this isn’t going to be a primary computer for you.
Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not the perfect second computer, when you can’t bring your big one along. It’s also great as a first computer for people who prioritize light weight and easily mobility, without a lot of need to engage in heavy processing. Sure, a small notebook isn’t perfect for everyone, but it still has an awful lot to offer. Try one out today and see what a difference they can make.
Small Notebooks Computers Might Work For You
A tiny computer could be your best friend if you need to work on the go. Light, convenient, attractive and durable, these little machines have it all. From Asus’s tiny 7″ Eee (which debuted on the market a few years ago) to larger 12″ models from companies like Samsung, there are all kinds of Small Notebook Computers out there.
They’re not a replacement for your desktop, and they don’t have the fastest processors on the market. That’s a fact. But, a Small Notebook Computer has a whole lot to offer to people who need to work on the go, without a lot of inconvenience. Check them out and see how a little notebook could change how you work.

Has anyone noticed any heat problems with this laptop ? Was watching a DVD on the laptop, and fell asleep for a while. When I woke up and picked up the laptop on the left side where the cooling vent is, it was way too hot to hold. I like this laptop, but will probably send it back. Think it could be hot enough to cause a burn.

When we bought a top of the line MacBook Pro we had nothing but one problem after another for many weeks. The “Genius” people at Apple stores gave us incorrect information, did not comprehend the problems and the only way we solved them was to go to an outside company (INTUIT) who furnished the answers. Then we taught the information to the “Genius” Apple people. If one is not doing graphics, the MAC franchise really knows very little.
Contrast that experience to the Sony VAIO we just bought from Amazon. Right out of the box everything worked great. The hardware performed exactly as represented. In addition, when you put the screen next to the MAC it is sharper and easier to read.
In terms of price the VAIO is a much better buy than the overpriced MacBook. When the hype dies away from Apple products there will still be solid vompanies like SONY producing a great product.

My new pink Sony Vaio is perfect for me! The key board is easy to use, the screen is bright and the touch pad is just sensitive enough! Light weight too! All in all a great purchase.

My wife have always had VAIO laptops, last year we decided to give a Dell netbook a try, we thought smaller will be better, oh boy! we were so wrong, we totally missed the fact that even tough she does not do any very power demanding computing, she grew used to the performance of an actual computer not a toy (Dell).
She didn’t want to say anything but I know she wasn’t happy with a netbook, so I had to find her a nice PINK SONY VAIO and the only I could find was a flowery version of this one on sonystyle, well my wife likes girly stuff of course but that thing from sonystyle was too much, until I came accross this one on amazon, I’m saved!
Performance out of the box is amazing thanks to Windows 7 and SONY deciding not to fill it up with crapware, It is so good that I skipped my regular formatting/OS clean install that I have performed on each and every computer I (and wife) have ever owned (I switch computers about 6-8 times a year), yes is that good!
Sony’s craftsmanship is exquisite and you are paying for it! The finishing is awesome, it is light pink very classy and glossy, keyboard feels great, well arranged and almost silent, mousepad works as expected, the screen resolution is not great but is not bad either, battery life and speakers are … let say, above average.
Stop thinking about it, BUY IT, you are going to like it. (Amazon’s return policy is very accommodating tough… just in case)
Have seen those ads on tv for products that will “make you larger” ? this one will make you 14.1″ larger and your wife very ‘pleased’. (I know, I’m gross)
