The HP Pavilion HDX9010NR 20″ Entertainment Laptop is a laptop like none other. In reality it is really a compact desktop replacement. I'm going to go through this notebook with a fine tooth comb and let you know where it excels and where it might be a disappointment. I'm going to let you know if this notebook with a premium price is worth it or not and who would get the most out of this HP Pavilion laptop. Let's get started with the basics.

Hardware:

Screen Size: 20.1″ LCD

Storage: (2) 120GB hard drives (for a total of 240GB)

RAM: 2GB of RAM (this is expandable to 4)

Optical Drives: HD DVD drive (with an integrated burner CD R/RW and Dual layer DVD +/- R)

Tuner: HDTV TV tuner integrated

Graphics card: Mobility Radeon HD2600 XT (with 256MB of dedicated VRAM)

Size: 18.7″ x 13.4″ x 2.3″

Weight: 15.5lbs

Additional Components: Remote Control, Earphones

At first glance the screen is amazing. I mean it is one of the nicer displays I've seen. It rivals the nicest Sony Vaio or the top of the line Apple. The dedicated graphics card produces a native 720p resolution on the LCD panel pumping out a resolution of 1680×1050. Next the unique feature that really gets my attention is the hinged back. This is a great feature especially for a notebook that can and should be acting as a desktop replacement. This allows for the LCD to be adjusted in order to find the perfect viewing angle for everyone.

In my opinion this hefty notebook should be used as a desktop replacement. It is better than products like the iMac in my opinion because it can be folded up and put away giving you a clear desk to work on. The iMac desktop can't do that. Plus it can act as a television with the built in NTSC analog and ATSC digital tuner. It really is multipurpose and not only could it be the backbone of any entertainment system it literally could be the entertainment system (remote control included!).

It's also really much too large to transport around. It weighs a bulky 15.5lbs, so unless you're looking for a workout, this notebook isn't coming to class with you every day.

The dual hard drive configuration is a bit confusing however weight obviously wasn't an issue that went into the design of this notebook. The HP Pavilion HDX9010NR has plenty of hard drive space at 240 GB. The RAM at 2 GB is adequate, and if you find you need more it is expandable. Well now let me get to the connections.

Connectivity:

4 2.0 USB ports (You can use these to connect your iPod or printer or whatever)

1 FireWire port (This can be used to transfer digital video files at high speeds, like off of your digital camcorder)

Audio input

SVideo Input

2 Audio out jacks / 1 Mic jack

1 VGA output (for your typical monitor)

1 HDMI port (use this to connect to your HDTV)

1 S-Video (Use this to connect to a projector)

1 ExpressCard 54 slot

5 in 1 card reader (you can use this for the solid state memory you use with your digital camera or mobil phone / PDA whatever.

Well, I see everything I expect to and more. I don't know why you would need to VGA output because I doubt you have a monitor larger than the 20.1″ LCD included on here, but its there. The 4 USB ports is 1 more than average. The HDMI output is great, if you want to use this to stream to your HD TV. Not connection is missing. The HP Pavilion HDX9010NR notebook is truly setup.

I foresee the absolute best function of this laptop being in the dorm room. It is not only a fully functional gaming machine, video machine, homework machine, it is also the TV complete with remote. All of which weighs about 16lbs (much less than your standard 20″ LCD I might add) which can be easily removed from the desk to return your writing surface. It won't disappoint if you have the money to pick this notebook up. In fact it's recently been on sale below $1000 off of retail. I would seriously consider this notebook in the $2000-2500 range. It originally retailed at $3500!

It is hard to believe that HP and other netbook makers packed so many features into such a small package. This HP netbook is a little bigger than the average DVD case. It is TINY…and slim too. At 2lbs and some change, you can carry this thing all day long and not even notice the weight.

The features in the 1033CL match up with other netbooks on the market. The hard drive is a bit smaller than average – 60GB v/s 120GB. This model comes with 1GB RAM v/s 2GB RAM on most Vista-enabled netbooks. Not deal breakers by any means…but savy shoppers can get more bang for their netbook dollars.

Now, let’s talk about this netbook. The keyboard is darn near full-sized which makes touch typing possible. I crank out 80wpm on a regular keyboard and can get near that speed on this netbook. There are a few compromises though. The touchpad has buttons on either side v/s on top like most netbooks and laptops. The arrow keys are smaller than regular keys. There is no dedicated home key and now requires two keys be pressed (fn-left arrow). Most people won’t notice it but power users might have an issue.

The speaker sits directly above the keyboard and sounds great! Some laptops and netbooks put the speakers under the unit or in the palmrest (so your hand covers it!) but HP got it right. Volume is loud and sound is full. Not tinny.

The 1033CL has plenty of ports. Power, USB, headphone/mic, and Ethernet are on the left. Another USB port and a smartcard slot are on the right. The front has buttons for power and for turning off the wireless network card. (great for saving power)

Speaking of power, this netbook comes with a 3cell battery. It is good for quick trips but if you want long-term power, shoot for a 6 cell battery or better. The battery compartment is in the bottom of the unit for easy access. RAM can also be upgraded via the bottom of the unit.

The display is very crisp. 10.2 inches sounds small but the Windows XP resolution is 1024×600 so it’s bigger than expected. Movies look great on it. The display has the a reflective coating on it (don’t remember technical name).

A few minor annoyances with this netbook. The webcam requires a lot of background light just to get a half-way decent picture. There is a port for an external monitor but the dongle for it wasn’t included in the box. HP charges extra for it. The touchpad includes a generous space for scrolling. Almost too generous. About 3/4 of an inch of the touchpad is reserved for scrolling down a page. Fortunately, it can be adjusted using software.

Overall, the 1033CL is a fun netbook. It isn’t the fastest or packed with the most features but the crisp display, the almost full-sized keyboard, and the audio make this unit stand out among competitors. I’m happy I bought it. The portability of it is just addictive. I take it to the kitchen, the bedroom, the garage, the front porch, backyard and more.

MSI just announced their latest, the GE600 gaming notebook, is now available for purchase. Built around an Intel Core i5 processor and the ATI Radeon HD5730 GPU, the GE600 is billed at MSI’s lightest gaming notebook yet at 5.9 lbs, and this latest addition to their stable is also DirectX11 capable.

The GE600 comes standard with Windows 7, 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB SATA drive. The new machine is currently for sale at Newegg, and you’ll be able to pick it up for $899, today.

Me and my husband bought the Sony VAIO VGN-FE41Z series laptop three months ago by calling at call centre. We by experience came to conclusion that using call centre for the order is better because you can ask them for any offer or even free delivery. My husband is a GP so he needed a laptop for only work. So we both selected this laptop with mobile technology. I found this laptop best as it has some special features like built in camera, microphone and blue tooth. This Sony laptop has Intel Centrino, Duo with windows vista . Sky Pe is also installed. I selected screen size 15.4″. Memory is 2 GB.

Adobe Photoshop premiere Element already installed in the laptop.

When I first opened the laptop ,the touch just said its quality. The X-black LCD with double lamp widescreen was stunning and impressive. The graphics can never be found in any other computer . Every part itself saying that it belongs to the Sony and Sony are the best.

I chat with my sis' in US using built in camera . I used yahoo chat instead of Skype because yahoo is free and Skype has charges and Skype can be use with broadband and also when some one on the other side also use broadband. Other wise its function is disturbing.

Disadvantages are when comparing with Dell, no disc is supplied for already installed software like Windows vista is installed and no disc is provided in case any damage is done to laptop . So we can not reinstall the windows or adobe photo shop .

I paid for Microsoft word. Dell provide Disc for windows and word and also for each and every software installed.

We incur with the problem within two weeks but we dealt with that I want to share that too in case it might help some body

One day (it was not even two weeks) when I tried to log on my laptop its windows start up and then suddenly screen went black and it seemed like dead .I did try to start again but it just produce clicking sound and no more move. I was shocked and got worried .It is such an expensive, brand new and latest model .what should I do now. But I was not very worried as It was covered by business warranty ,so I thought to contact to Sony and get my laptop repaired but before that I wanted to do what ever I could do my self and so contact my friend who set up my laptop and also my Dell computer. He is an expert in the computer and it is his profession too. I followed his advice. The solution was so simple that no body will believe .Any body can do this. So I thought if any body come across with the same problem should not end up paying or be fooled by anybody.

Laptops are actually are more delicate and sensitive than desktop computers. The laptops has more powerful defensive system than desktop computers against invaders.

When any problem accord like windows went switch off automatically, screen turns blank, laptop did not turn on or suddenly turn of automatically while running. The reason could be any one and might possibly be cured by:-
(First check that it is not due to need of charging)

Take out all the other connections from the laptop
Then slowly take out those batteries which are inserted in the laptop all the time.
Then leave the laptop this way about at least an hour.

After an hour insert back the batteries in the place . And slowly turn on the power button and amazingly this simple trick helped and reset the laptop .

What my friend told me and also I concluded that there might be a virus invaded through Internet and tried to infect the hard drive. The self defence system of laptop automatically went to “sleep” to save it self from damage.

Then when we take out the battery from the laptop ,the internal power set to zero as there were no supply of current by any mean for some time and when reinsert the battery in the laptop like the first day, it is back to normal and get out of “sleep” mode. There might be other technical clarification but as I am no expert I just guessed it my self.

I have done this twice as this happened to my laptop twice and both the time it did work.
And I am sure it will work for every one the same as it did to me. And I am really happy to get my Sony VAIO laptop back and working and also because Bond also use the same one and I am sure he does know the same solution if problem occur !

I know the problem occur due to my fault it had nothing to do with the Sony and the problem was resolve. I was not worried because the laptop I bought was quite expensive so I get 4 years cover. Now even after 3 to 4 months it is working nicely and smoothly . I am happy with our choice

Windows Vista is the new feature but it is very much similar to Windows XP . All of the software are compatible l(I am talking about only which I use )like, Adobe Photoshop ,yahoo,MS Word, MSN and all the other common features we use in every day life. I only use basic as I am not very expert in Computers.

Summary: The laptops are best ,we can carry with us while travelling also
