Lenovo Delivers on the Three D’s with its First 3D Laptop; Dynamic, Dazzling and Dramatic

Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d: Multimedia Laptop Goes 3D

The 3D laptops keep rolling out. This time from Lenovo, who's outfitted the IdeaPad Y560 notebook with an extra dimension in the Y560d. It's got the same Core i7 goodness, a 15.6-inch (1366×768) display, and starts at $1200. Not shabby!

Of course, you'll have to upgrade if you want that Core i7, ATI Radeon HD5730 1GB graphics, or 750GB hard drive; the starting price sticks you with a still decent Core i3 processor, Intel's not-so-great integrated graphics, and a 250GB hard drive. Even the 3D panel, software, and glasses are extra options, meaning that it's going to quite a bit more to outfit the Y560d for a full 3D multimedia experience.

It also would've been nice to see 3D Blu-ray compatibility and Nvidia Optimus technology for easy graphics switching. While there's not much 3D Blu-ray content to choose from currently, it'd be nice to be a little more future-rpoof.

Still: it's early days for 3D laptops, and everyone's still figuring out what exactly consumers want—including consumers. If it's a relatively affordable 3D multimedia notebook that can be tricked out to the gills, the Y560d might just be onto something.

I have been looking at a hybrid netbook online, it says it came out june 1st, does anybody know where to buy it or how much it costs

Lenovo became one of the earliest large PC builders with a 3D notebook today with the addition of the IdeaPad Y560d. Its approach is very different from the Toshiba model as it doesn't use the more common NVIDIA approach. Instead, it uses a rarer TriDef 3D approach that allows ATI graphics for the stereoscopic 3D effect, using up to a Mobility Radeon HD 5730.

Storage is also new on the gaming-focused system: Lenovo's in-house RapidDrive merges a regular hard drive with a small SSD to boot as much as two thirds faster or copy and load files roughly twice as fast. The main disk tops out at 750GB where the SSD can peak at 64GB.

At its maximum, the 15.6-inch portable can use up to a 1.86GHz quad Core i7, 8GB of RAM and a Blu-ray drive for watching 3D movies. Battery life is short, however, at a maximum of five hours with integrated graphics.

Prices start at $1,200 for the notebook. Lenovo hasn't detailed what this includes, but a minimum configuration starts out simple with a dual-core 2.13GHz Core i3, a 250GB drive without RapidDrive, Intel's integrated video and usual complements such as 802.11n Wi-Fi and a webcam. Shipments should start toward the end of the month.

Sony is one of the top selling notebook manufacturers in the market today. With notebooks out pacing desktop sales the mid range notebook is a highly competitive market. The economy is slowing and we're seeing stiff competition for consumers. It may be the time to strike but which notebook is right for you? I've got my hands on the Sony VAIO VGN-FZ240N/B 15.4″ Laptop and I'm going to let you know what its load with and what you can expect out of it. I'll start with some of the basics.

Hardware:

Imaging: Integrated Web Cam

Display: 15.4″ LCD

Processor: 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7250

Storage: 250 GB hard drive (Serial ATA)

RAM: 2 GB RAM (expandable up to 4GB of RAM)

Optical Drive: A CD R/RW with integrated DVD +/- R RW dual layer DVD burner

OS: Windows Vista Business

Weight: 5.75 lbs

This is a good midrange entry from Sony. I like that the body is made of a Magnesium alloy, it really feels sturdy to the touch and stays very cool. It is fairly light weight for a 15″ notebook and has a good low profile. The battery life however seems to be about average.

The good news though is that it is a fairly powerful notebook. The 2.0ghz T7250 is a great processor and enables the user to do a great deal of multitasking. The video card is integrated and derives it's video memory from the system memory, so the 2GB of RAM gets a little stretched. You'll be able to play medium intensity games, but don't expect to crank up the graphics to 11 and see smooth rendering. Though since it is a mid range notebook I hope that no one intends on doing that anyway.

The storage space is good, you can get about as many songs and movies as I would expect you would need at one time on the 250GB drive. That being said I would immediately clear out much of Sony's preinstalled trial ware. Much of it runs in the system tray or background and slows things down. Many of the programs don't even offer much that isn't already included in Windows Vista to begin with. It is just a nuisance and Sony is notorious for it.

Connectivity:

3 2.0 USB (use these to connect your digital camera, iPod, or printer)

1 FireWire (to connect to a digital camcorder and download your digital home movies)

1 VGA output (output to a standard monitor)

1 S-Video (output to a projector or supported TV)

ExpressCard

Memory Stick and SD card slots

Integrated WiFi

Integrated Blue tooth

Ethernet Port

Modem Port

The connectivity is standard and I see everything I expected. I think that it is clear that Sony was designing a very mobile device but trying to inject a little more power. I think they've succeeded; this notebook remains mobile but has a great processor and large hard drive. This is almost the perfect notebook. This price is a little high but that's how Sony rolls. Unlike Apple however Sony will occasionally issue price reductions, so I would keep an eye on this one and look for it to dip in the summer when the market slows and the stimulus checks start to roll in.

This review will be looking at Fujitsu's P7230 ultraportable. This tiny system is part of a new crop of ultraportable's that use LED backlighting in order to get great display performance while maintaining a long battery life. That is the main technological achievement of the system but it is by no means all it has going for it. The P7230 is built on an ultra mobile platform that includes an Intel Core Solo U1400 processor, an optical drive, and a 10.6" display. This smaller format factor allows for a very light weight and great portability but limits the power of the system as well as aspects that affect usability, like the size of the keyboard.

Stay unplugged longer with the new FUJITSU LifeBook M2010 Li-ion Battery. This 10.8V Rechargeable Li-ion battery can replace the original system battery or be used as a spare. FUJITSU computer batteries life (and recharge times) will vary based on many factors including screen brightness, applications, features, power management, battery conditioning and other customer preferences.  http://www.laptop-batteries.com.au/fujitsu-computer-battery.htm

Fujitsu has dabbled in ultra-ultraportable machines for a while now, having released the LifeBook U810 and U820 tablet PCs. Now the company is ready to take baby steps into the netbook market, with its M2010. To be honest, though, this isn’t the bold move that Fujitsu should have–or could have–made.
Fujitsu’s M2010, according to company spokespeople, is geared a bit more toward kids. While not exactly child-size, the machine’s keys seem reminiscent of the keyboard on the 10-inch Acer Aspire One: a little on the smaller side, but with perfectly serviceable buttons (fujitsu fpcbp216ap computer batteires). At least the arrow keys are large on the M2010. And you’ll need them–though the touchpad has a nice, textured surface, its size is about average for a netbook. That’s hardly a crime, but since we’re seeing new netbooks (like the Toshiba NB205) crop up with larger touchpads, I’m greedy and I want to see more, if only for the sake of my aching hands.  http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/fujitsu-stylistic-st6012.htm
As for the screen, colors popped. Despite having the same screen size and glare-inducing coating as the Toshiba, and a slightly lower resolution (1024 by 576 pixels), the M2010 produced colors that seemed a little more vibrant and didn’t get lost in the shadows.

Overall, the design of the Fujitsu M2010 is uninspired. Its two-tone, hard-plastic case can be eye-catching, depending on the color you order (our flashy red unit drew a couple of double takes here at the office), but this 2.5-pound netbook doesn’t look much different from other models on the market. Its configuration–three USB ports (asus Eee PC 1101HA laptop battery), an SDHC card reader, a Webcam, one VGA-out, ethernet, and headphone and microphone jacks–is fairly standard, too.

Fujitsu doesn’t add much to the mix beyond Bluetooth and a few bits of bundled software. Roxio Creator LJ saves files out to external drives, as does the simple but extremely effective MyRecovery software (a three-button interface for creating and restoring system backups). Otherwise, you get the standard-issue Windows XP netbook experience (Microsoft Works, 60-day trial of Microsoft Office and all).   http://www.laptop-battery.org.uk/

The performance? Let’s just say that it’s fairly average in some cases. The guts of this wee PC vary little from those of most netbooks, consisting of a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB 5400-rpm hard drive. And with a score of 34 on WorldBench 6, it falls right in line with the performance of most current netbooks. The battery life dragged down its score the most. Fujitsu claims that the M2010’s three-cell battery hangs on for 2.5 hours, but it was more like 2 hours, 5 minutes in our tests. That’s a far cry from what we’ve seen from machines like the Samsung N110, which lasted for over 8 hours in the same test conditions.  http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/fujitsu-fpcbp208ap.htm
In the end, Fujitsu didn’t produce a bad machine–just a fairly average one. In a market already brimming with wannabes, I would have liked to see Fujitsu deliver more-daring designs, such as what it did with the U810, the U820, and the N7010 (which embedded a second touchscreen into an all-purpose portable). Plenty of other netbooks offer better performance for less. Might I suggest the Asus Eee PC 1008HA?

Product Review: Microsoft Notebook Cooling Base

    In My Bag by michaeljosh

    Roboter Staubsauger bei Amazon

I have an older model Dell laptop computer that gets really hot. Sometimes it becomes so hot to the touch that I cannot have it on my lap for fear of burning my skin. This heat really defeats the purpose and function of a notebook or laptop computer.

Since I did not want to invest money to purchase a newer computer, I decided to look into inexpensive cooling options. My purchase: Microsoft's slick new Notebook Cooling Base in hot pink.

    Notebook Cooling Base Specifications
The contoured cooling base is powered via a USB cable that you connect to your notebook or laptop computer. This cable makes the cooling base very portable, and I like not dealing with AC adapters or batteries. The device cools your computer via a single fan and an efficient cooling channel to draw the heat away.

The unit is very lightweight and thin. You can place your laptop or notebook computer directly onto the cooling base and set it on your lap to work without fear of overheating. Optionally, you can flip down the desk stand if you want to use the unit on a surface other than your lap. The top surface has 2 grippers so that your computer will not shift around. The unit base is black and contains the desk stand and 2 grippers.

    Width: about 11.4 inches
    Length: about 11.4 inches

Does the Notebook Cooling Base Work?
I was pleasantly surprised to find that Microsoft has created a cooling base that does work on my old laptop reliably. I have tested it over several weeks and multiple hours per day without a single heat-related crash. Before I used the cooling base, my laptop would crash due to heat at least once per day.

I highly recommend this cooling base for your notebook or laptop computer, particularly if you have an older model that is prone to overheating. It is comfortable, inexpensive, and very portable. I do not even hear the fan running so noise is not an issue with this device.

I tested my husband's MacBook on my new hot pink cooling base. Although he is not wild for my color choice, we did find that it could work for the MacBook. The MacBook is slightly wider than the base so it did overhang on each side. Although the MacBook does not suffer from a heating issue, the base was comfortable to use in both the lap and desktop positions.

Where to Purchase Microsoft's Notebook Cooling Base
I purchased my base at a local Target store for $24.99. I had a choice of a few different colors including black, silver, white, and pink. If your local Target store does not carry the notebook cooling base, you can preorder it from Amazon.com for $29.99 or search for a local retailer using your zip code on Microsoft's Hardware website.

In the early nineties few people could image the impact that notebook would have in the computer industry. Its unique portability made the notebook a product in a class by itself. Soon, it became a must-have product, to those who were constantly moving from office, home or school. Nowadays, it is one of the best selling computer hardware items of all times.

With a Notebook, you can carry your work around conveniently, without having to worry about the myriads of wires, hardware and space needed to keep a desktop. Also, you can choose whether to work from office or home. A Notebook is really handy in any situation.

Portability and mobility are the great advantages of having a Notebook, or laptop. In your Internet search prior to buying a Notebook, you will be presented with a great variety and quantity of information. This can be quite bewildering, so you have to know what features you need in a Notebook.

Upgradabeality is an important consideration: the Notebook you choose now may be the one best suited to your current needs; but in future, you may find it necessary to upgrade it. You will not want to invest valuable time and money in purchasing a Notebook which you will have to discard or sell off in the near future, because of what you might feel as the inadequacy of your current one. When you consider upgradabeality, you have to think of memory or RAM, and hard disk space.

The CPU, or Processor, is the engine which will drive your Notebook`s performance. So you should choose the fastest CPU that is available, depending on your budget and on what you will be using the Notebook for. Tasks like word processing, emailing and surfing the Net do not require a fast CPU. But using CPU intensive applications, such as processing spreadsheets or playing games will work better with a fast CPU.

The RAM, or memory is another important feature, and the more memory you have, the better. Your Notebook`s performance will be greatly affected if you do not have sufficient memory. The minimum recommended these days is 1 Gigabyte of memory. Some experts recommend a minimum of 2 Gigabytes. The more memory you have, the better the performance and multitasking you can expect from your Notebook.

The speed and capacity of the hard disk of your Notebook are important, for this is where you will install all your software and your data (documents, database, photos etc). Make sure that you have enough room to store all your information which can be readily accessed. 40 Gigabytes of hard disk space is considered the minimum these days. Consider getting a Notebook with 80 Gigabytes of disk space.

Do note that Apple Notebooks are now using Intel processors, which means that if you have a hard disk with sufficient disk space, you can partition your disk drive and install both Apple Mac software and Windows software, and switch between the two.

You also have to consider the screen of your Notebook, for this is what you are going to be staring at, and you have to be happy with its resolution and size. You will want a crisp, bright screen with good viewing, especially for photos. You can go and look at different screens at a local electronics store, and try to figure out which size and resolution you like best. Just be sure that the screen is an Active Matrix one and not Passive Matrix.

The other features you will be looking at to connect to your Notebook are external devices such as a mouse, printer, portable disk drive, scanner etc. Good luck!

CLEVELAND | Outfielder Scott Podsednik is a veteran now with a World Series ring on his resume, but he was just another prospect seeking a chance in 2003 when Ned Yost took over as the manager in Milwaukee.</p><p> As such, Podsednik serves as an object lesson for players such as Mitch Maier and Mike Aviles as the Royals seek to redefine themselves under Yost as their new manager.</p><p> &ldquo;I would watch Scott Podsednik every day (in 2003) as a backup player take balls off the bat and work as hard as anybody,&rdquo; Yost recalled. &ldquo; He was out for early bunting every day and out early every day working on his base-running.</p><p> &ldquo; Those are the guys that I really keep my eye on &mdash; guys that really work to get better and to give themselves every opportunity to get better.&rdquo;</p><p> Yost cites Maier and Aviles as candidates to make such a jump with the Royals.</p><p> &ldquo; Both of those guys have gotten an opportunity and taken full advantage of it,&rdquo; Yost said. &ldquo; They both can swing the bat, they both focus real hard on their defense and they&rsquo;re taking full advantage of their opportunity.&rdquo;</p><p> Aviles was the Royals&rsquo; player of the year as a rookie shortstop in 2008 but suffered an injured right elbow last year that eventually required Tommy John surgery. His recovery included nearly three weeks this season in the minors, but he has been the club&rsquo;s top hitter since returning May 2 from Class AAA Omaha.</p><p> The Royals remain wary of Aviles&rsquo; elbow being able to withstand the rigors of ready duty at shortstop. But a .390 average explains why he supplanted Chris Getz as the starting second baseman. </p><p> Maier gained steady duty in center field when a strained right quadriceps sidelined veteran Rick Ankiel on April 24. While Maier is batting just .244, his ability to draw walks boosts his on-base percentage to .343.</p><p> The timing on Ankiel&rsquo;s return remains uncertain. His recovery has already taken longer than anticipated, and whenever he is judged game-ready, plans call for him to undergo a minor-league rehab assignment to hone his timing.</p><p> It amounts to an ongoing opportunity for Maier &mdash; the sort of opportunity that Podsednik seized seven years ago under Yost in Milwaukee.</p><p><strong><span class="subhead">Eye on Osuna</span></strong></p><p> Lefty Edgar Osuna lowered his ERA to 1.23 by pitching five scoreless innings Wednesday in Class AA Northwest Arkansas&rsquo; 1-0 victory over Tulsa. He is 4-1 in eight starts after getting a no-decision.</p><p> &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve seen guys do a lot more at the big-league level with a lot less than he has,&rdquo; Yost said. &ldquo;I go back and look at Tommy Glavine, who was 90-91 (mph) tops. Osuna is 90 tops. But I look at Charlie Leibrandt, who was 88 with a changeup and a cutter. He won 18-20 games a year at the big-league level.&rdquo;</p><p><strong><span class="subhead">Minor details</span></strong></p><p> The breakout starts by third baseman Mike Moustakas and first baseman Eric Hosmer, the organization&rsquo;s first-round picks in 2007 and 2008, continue to generate attention.</p><p> ESPN analyst Keith Law now places both in his updated rankings of the top 25 minor-league prospects: Hosmer at No. 23, Moustakas at No. 25. That&rsquo;s a jump from No. 34 and No. 69 in Law&rsquo;s pre-season rankings.</p><p> Hosmer, 20, is batting .387 at Class A. Moustakas, 21, is batting .375 at Class AA Northwest Arkansas. </p><p><strong><span class="subhead">Looking back</span></strong></p><p>A little more on what happened a year ago Wednesday when the Royals scored four runs in the ninth inning against Cleveland closer Kerry Wood for a 6-5 victory at Kauffman Stadium.</p><p> That rally started with successive one-out home runs by Mark Teahen and Mike Jacobs.</p><p> Mitch Maier drew a walk and scored the tying run on David DeJesus&rsquo; RBI triple. DeJesus scored the winning run on Willie Bloomquist&rsquo;s sacrifice fly to right field.</p><p> Kyle Farnsworth got the victory &mdash; his only victory of the season.</p><p><strong><span class="subhead">Etc.</span></strong></p><p>&bull;The Royals were 0-23 this season when trailing after eight innings before Wednesday&rsquo;s victory.</p><p>&bull;Bruce Chen got his first victory since Aug. 6. 2009 against Seattle. Here's what's happening around the National Football League on Wednesday, May 19, 2010:

    • Former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner took to Twitter to refute rumors that he was considering ending his retirement and return to the field.

“Sorry, to all of you that may b holding out hope of a return! I am done and have plenty to do! But, hope to stay involved with fb! we'll see,” Warner wrote @kurt13warner.

PFT reported Tuesday that because Warner was having trouble landing a TV job, he might consider a comeback.

    • Despite an overloaded running back corps that includes Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, Willie Parker and Ryan Torain, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan refuses to close the door on Brian Westbrook.

The veteran free agent is coming off an injury-plagued 2009 in Philadelphia, but Shanahan said Wednesday that Westbrook is still an option for the Redskins.

“We're still talking about him,” Shanahan said. “He's under consideration … I'm sure he's looking at his options.”

    Transaction Wire

    • Bears SS/KR Danieal Manning signed a one-year tender worth $1.176 million. Manning skipped the first couple weeks of voluntary workouts last month before finally reporting April 19 after signing an injury agreement with the team.

    • The Seahawks signed quarterback J.P. Losman to a one-year deal. Losman spent most of the 2009 season playing for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives, who he helped lead to the league's first-ever championship.

    Injury Ward

    • Texans RB Steve Slaton, who had neck surgery in mid-January to repair nerve damage, is scheduled for a June 25 checkup that will determine his status for training camp, according to the Houston Chronicle. Slaton has been participating in non-contact OTA drills, but still needs to be cleared for full-contact practices.

    • Saints WR Devery Henderson had surgery for a sports hernia on May 6, Nola.com reported. The website said the injury came to light when Henderson was unable to attend and awards ceremony for a charity he helps fund.

Cardinals DT Darnell Dockett (@ddockett): Man OTA work outs are not mandatory So why are we all here? Oh yeah that's right cause we got to win the west 3x in a row!

Do you want to buy a laptop computer, but don’t want to make your student loan any higher than it is? Well don’t worry because it IS possible to purchase a great laptop computer without breaking the bank. When considering such a big purchase, you should first look at the big picture.

    The Big Picture

Laptops come in all shapes and sizes, each with their own unique capabilities. When purchasing a budget laptop, you will probably be purchasing a heavier model, as the lightweight models tend to be on the pricier side. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get one that easily fits in your backpack. Do your research and shop around, and I’m sure you’ll find a laptop that’s perfect for you. When choosing a laptop you have lots of features to choose from like: RAM, processors, hard drives, DVD and CD drives, battery life, graphics cards and much more. You’ll probably want one with good battery life, since I’m sure you’ll be taking your laptop to class with you. That way it won’t shut down in the middle of a lecture. When purchasing a budget laptop, you should be prepared to spend anywhere from $499 to $900 plus tax, depending on the features you choose.

    The Features of a Laptop

Choosing which laptop to buy will largely depend on what features you need. When buying a budget laptop, you may not get all the “bells and whistles” as you would with the more expensive ones. Don’t let that discourage you though, because you can still do a lot with an inexpensive budget laptop.

RAM stands for Random Access Memory and is your laptop’s virtual memory. RAM is measured in MB and GB, and the more RAM you have, the better. You can have more programs running at the same time if you have a lot of RAM. Your laptop will also run faster if you have more RAM. It sounds great, but buying a laptop with a lot of RAM is going to cost you. I would recommend at least 512MB, but if you can afford more then go for it. This is one of the most important things to consider when purchasing your laptop, so it shouldn’t be taken lightly. If you decide to go under 512MB you’ll probably be investing more money later on, because you’ll have to purchase more RAM.

Hard Drives are another feature to consider when purchasing your laptop. Their storage space is measured in GB, and just like RAM, the more you have, the better. However, you don’t need to go overboard with the hard drive space. Just make sure you get a sufficient amount that will allow you to do everything you need to do. If you decide that you need more later on, you can always buy an external hard drive for your laptop.

CD and DVD drives are popular with everyone, not just students. Believe it or not, you can get a CD or DVD drive in your laptop without exceeding your budget. If you want to burn CDs or DVDs, that’s going to cost you a little more money. Most of the time it’s worth the extra money because you can save so much information on them and free up your hard drive space. They’re also nice to use as a portable DVD player, although the battery gets used up fast when you use it this way.

Shopping Tips When Buying Your Laptop

As with all your purchases, shop around! Don’t just accept the first “sale” price you see. While you can check your newspaper for sale ads, I would recommend shopping online. Dell has a great website, where you can customize your own computer and even apply for financing. This is a big advantage when trying to buy a budget laptop, as you can cut out on the unnecessary bells and whistles. Also, their shipping is fast and sometimes it’s even free! I purchased a computer through them and it arrived in about a week. Before you start shopping, write down the features that you’d like your laptop to have. That way you’re not overwhelmed when it comes to making the final choice. You should also consider purchasing an extended warranty for your laptop. Most laptops come with a factory warranty, but investing in an extended warranty is definitely worth the money. They often offer free batteries for the life of the warranty, which is a huge savings in itself. Nomatter what you choose, make sure it’s the perfect laptop for your lifestyle. Even though you’re purchasing a budget laptop, remember that you’re probably going to use that laptop a lot, and for many years. If you’re stuck with something that doesn’t serve it’s purpose, you wasted your money. Keep it simple, but make the cost worthwile.

How to Troubleshoot an Acer Laptop Mouse

    Laptop-Config-Fixed by -RetardedRaven

    Hewlett Packard Laptop billiger

Net Books are the newest breed of portable computers, they are much smaller then an average Notebook computer, and they are far more energy efficient and so have to ability to be portable for longer periods of time. The original Net Book was the Asus EEE PC; this was revolutionary not only in its affordable price but also its stellar portable size.

However the EEE PC did have several drawbacks, such as a Linux only operating system and lack luster storage space. That was back in 2007, and now there are many exceptional Net Book computers to choose from that have more memory, stronger processors, and more storage space.

The newest entrant into the growing Net Book market is the Acer Aspire One 8.9-inch Mini Laptop; this choice has a large internal hard drive, sufficient memory, and a bigger brighter screen. All of these aspects combine to create an exceptional Net Book for the business traveler or a college student, who constantly travels around.

Processing power is important, so naturally you'll need the latest processor to successfully complete most computing tasks. Luckily the Acer Aspire One is powered by the latest Intel Atom, which is a brand new ultra-mobile processor. If you are self conscious about energy conservation you'll be happy to know that the Atom processor uses less than 1/10 of the 35 watts used by a traditional Intel Core 2 Duo, which allows the Acer Aspire One to exhibit exceptional battery life.

Storage space is derived from a 160 GB hard disk drive (5400 RPM), which are far more space then a comparable EEE PC model. With all this storage space you'll be able to store tons of music, applications, digital pictures, and digital movies. This hard drive is also (SATA) which means that it is much faster then a Serial ATA drive, and much faster then comparable Firewire.

Memory is also enhanced over comparable Net Book PCs, with 1 GB of installed RAM. This amount of memory will greatly enhance your ability to utilize the latest computer applications include memory hogging software suites such as Adobe Photoshop and the Microsoft Office suite. As with most portable computers, Net Books are also expandable and you can expand the Acer Aspire One to maximum memory of 1.5 GB.

In terms of connectivity the Acer Aspire One is exceptional, boasting 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting various peripherals. A Secure Digital (SD) card reader for extending the internal storage space and a Multi-in-one card reader supports SD, MMC, Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO, and XD Picture Cards. There is also a VGA monitor port, which can be used to connect an external monitor if you want more real estate on screen.

Unfortunately there isn't a modem built into the Aspire One, but there is a RJ-45 port for 10/100 Fast Ethernet connection, in case you don't have a wireless internet connection available. The Aspire One also boasts an exceptional WSVGA resolution (1024 x 600), on its bright and beautiful 8.9-inch screen, with CrystalBrite Technology that promises an improved picture quality.

Inside the box the Acer Aspire One comes with a rechargeable 6-cell lithium-ion battery, and AC adapter. This Net Book is ready to be used right out of the box and it's extremely simple to setup, so there won't be any headaches where the Aspire One is concerned.

Simply put, the Acer Aspire One Net Book PC is an exceptional bargain for anyone who wants one of the lightest portable computers ever built, but at the same time doesn't want to give up functionality or a windows operating system.

    Vintage Notebook

    6:40 am

    Crafts, Paper Crafts, Projects, Scrapbooking

By Recycled Crafts Contributor, Anitra from the blog “Coffee Pot People”.

I like to keep little notebooks around to capture inspiration when it strikes me.  I like to use notebooks like the one above for magazine clippings, color chips, photos or any other ideas.  This one fits neatly in my purse, and I can pop it out to record what I see for future art projects.  If you don’t have an inspiration journal, make one!  You’ll find they come very much in handy when you have an inspiration block.

To make, you’ll need to gather these supplies:

    Paper Mache Book

    Making Memories Vintage Findings Embellishments

Paper Accents Cardstock – 1 sheet Splash

ColorMates Cardstock – 1 sheet Smooth Ice Dust

Coredinations Cardstock – 1 sheet Vintage Sun Coral

    Mod Podge Gloss

    Paper Flowers – 2 coordinating

    Buttons – 7 coordinating

Die cut machine, punch or scissors – whatever you have to make shapes

    Clear “Bird Sing” stamp

    Colorbox Brown Ink

    Craft Glue

    Flat Paint Brush

    Scissors or Craft Knife

    Ruler

    Pencil

Take a sheet of cardstock and cut it to the size that will fit the front of your notebook.

Coat the front cover of your notebook with a medium layer of Mod Podge – don’t forget to cover the corners well since they are the first to dry.

Smooth your cardstock down thoroughly onto the front cover of your notebook.  You can see that I use a brayer – your hands work too, but just make sure to smooth *really* well.  Allow to dry for 15 – 20 minutes.

After the cover has dried, you are now ready to coat the top.  Give it a medium layer of Mod Podge and completely cover the front (don’t Mod Podge the inside or your pages will stick).  Allow to dry for 15 – 20 minutes.

Start adding embellishments with Mod Podge to the front of your notebook.  I always do the Mod Podge items first.  Allow to dry for 15 – 20 minutes between layers.

Lately I’ve really been enjoying clear stamps, so I used one to make an embellishment for the front of my notebook.  You’ll see that I have a small bird stamp and used brown ink on the Ice Dust cardstock.  Cut out and Mod Podge to the front of the notebook.  I also cut out my name from the Sun Coral cardstock with letter punches and then Mod Podged those to the front (please return to me!).

Use your craft glue to adhere coordinating buttons, paper flowers and whatever other embellishments float your boat.  Allow your notebook to dry for 24 hours before using.  Also consider sealing with a clear acrylic sealer if your notebook is going to touch other items in your bag or purse.  Mod Podge can get sticky, especially when hot and you want to make sure it doesn’t get damaged.

Most of the security software that you are referring to is included with most software that is titled Internet Security. Anti-virus keeps viruses off of your PC. Security Center(s) notify you of any threats, as well as monitor your other security software. Anti-Spyware keeps spyware off of your PC. Firewalls will block requests to your PC from unknown sources, as well as prevent unknown applications from accessing the Internet, which helps to prevent hackers.

As one other answerer has stated, Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 is a great software that includes all of these features. I would recommend it for your use, however I would recommend buying it as a cracked version may already have security threats built into it.

    Sony Notebook

One year ago my wife and I purchased two Acer Aspire 5100 series laptop computers to replace our desktop computers we use in our home for work. We both work online, and our goal was to be able to purchase a fifth wheel and travel the country, living in a fifth wheel full-time. With three kids and two of us each having our own computers, desktops are just too large and cumbersome for life on the road.

Before purchasing an Acer Aspire 5100 series computer, we searched for consumer reviews from many outlets and many different models of Acer laptop computers, not just the 5100 series. What we've found was an over all rating of four out of five stars, with only two primary concern that kept them from ranking five stars. One, and probably the most common complaint, was that the Acer laptop computer felt or seemed the little flimsy. This did not concern us much because we are not hard on our things, and we won't be dragging these from class to class in school, so we really weren't concerned about that aspect when compared to the price saving in buying an Acer laptop over another brand. The other primary complaint is the software that runs on boot up with the Acer laptops. Personally I do not see this software slowing down my computer a noticeable amount, and the fact that it has optimizing software that will clear memory and other programs to help your computer run better, I actually like the software.

We have had our computers for years now, and the lids are still solid, the computers still run smooth, and I still use the software that runs on boot up, although I can disable it at any time. The Acer Aspire 5100 series laptop computer, as with all Acer laptops, as the touchpad with your left and right mouse button, and in between the two buttons is a four way toggle. This is something I have not seen on any computer other than an Acer, and I have to say it is one little device that I absolutely love and have come to lean on. You can program the toggle for different things, I have the two back page and forward page when clicked left or right in to scroll page when clicked up or down. I think this is a great feature of the Acer laptops and as we prepare to purchase another laptop in the future, it will likely be another Acer with one of the key points being the toggle.

As far as speed and flexibility, for what we do the Acer Aspire 5100 Series Laptop Computer is as fast and versatile as any other comparable computer on the market.

So the way I see it, if you are purchasing a laptop computer for a college student or other student, I would suggest perhaps you spend a little more on something more durable, but if you're looking for something for serious computing, I would buy an Acer at the drop of a hat. My wife and I are both very satisfied with the Acer laptop computers.
