UCLA's David Estrada was drafted by Seattle in the 2010 MLS Super Draft. With the 11th pick in the 2010 MLS Super Draft, Seattle took David Estrada in order to improve their offense, and it was a good pick to go with. David Estrada is a senior at UCLA that has been playing the past four seasons for the UCLA Bruins in the Pac-10 Conference. He was a very quick player for UCLA, and was even called up to be on the U.S. National Team in January of 2007. He played with the Under-18 National Team at camp that year.

David Estrada finished his college career as a four-time all-conference honoree, proving that he was not just one of the best soccer players in the conference, but across the country. During his senior season he lead the team in assists and had the second highest number of total points for them as well. He started all 20 games for UCLA in 2009, and helped guide the UCLA Bruins to a Pac-10 Title earlier this year. During his career with the UCLA Bruins, Estrada played in 78 games, scoring 22 goals and dishing out 14 assists during his career. He ended up with 58 total points on offense, and could translate that goal scoring ability to Major League Soccer with just a little seasoning.

Seattle ended up going 12-7-11 in the 30 game schedule during 2009, putting up 38 goals on the season. They could definitely stand to add another offensive weapon to the team, and will look to finish better than their third place standing at the end of last season. They were only one point out of a tie for first place, so the Seattle Sounders could be on the cusp of taking over the Western Standings in Major League Soccer next season. They put up a good defense, allowing less than one goal per game, so they look to improve upon an offense that came up just short in the MLS Playoffs. In the second round of the 2010 MLS Super Draft, the Seattle Sounders chose F/M Mike Seamon to go along with Estrada, and then Seattle has one final pick in the fourth round before all is said and done. Getting Estrada on offense could be a nice spark heading into the 2010 season though.

The Super Eagles will be sent off to the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in grand style tomorrow night in Abuja with President Goodluck Jonathan expected to deliver an address to the football Ambassadors.

Nigeria's political and corporate leaders as well as football administrators and fans will gather at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja to bid farewell to the team and to reassure the players and officials of the nation's unwavering support, as it departs for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The Eagles, back in the FIFA World Cup after missing the finals in Germany four years ago, head to London the following morning for a 10 -day pre-World Cup camp and are expected to play two games in Europe against Saudi Arabia and Colombia.

The high profile dinner event tagged 'Super Eagles Celebration Night', which is expected to be graced by His Excellency President Goodluck Jonathan, is aimed at inspiring and motivating the two-time African champions, one of the world's most favourite national football teams, and will be attended by the full contingent of the teams' 2010 FIFA World Cup squad.

NFF President Sani Lulu Abdullahi said the big night is an occasion for the nation's leaders to appreciate the team and also gear the players and officials up for the 19th FIFA World Cup finals, which is for the first time ever being staged on African soil.

“As official sponsors of the Super Eagles, Coca-Cola is proud to host this event as a platform for the entire nation to appreciate these heroes and to pledge the confidence and support of over 140 million compatriots, as the team gears up for the great battle ahead”, said Austin Ufomba, Coca-Cola Nigeria's Marketing Director.

“We at Coca-Cola are optimistic that the Super Eagles, imbued with the 'Naija' spirit, will be the team to beat in South Africa”, he added.

Highpoints of the night will include address by President Goodluck Jonathan, live performance of the Super Eagles' 2010 World Cup song, video/audio documentary on the Eagles' march to the World Cup finals and live performance of the Nigerian remix of the Waving' Flag, Coca-Cola's 2010 FIFA World Cup theme song originally done by Somali-born K'NAAN. The remix rendered by the duo of Nigeria's leading hip-hop stars, Banky W and MI, is dedicated to the Super Eagles and is a celebration of the 'Naija Spirit' – that unfazed sense of optimism, confidence and perseverance that drives the average Nigerian to thrive in spite of adversity.

The Super Eagles' send forth dinner marks another milestone in the growing scope and strength of Coca-Cola's partnership with the NFF for the promotion and development of football in Nigeria. Other areas of recent collaboration between the two organizations include the launch in 2009 of the Copa Coca-Cola U-17 grassroots football programme and Coca-Cola's N550million five-year contract with the NFF for sponsorship of Nigeria's men's national football teams.

It would be recalled that Coca-Cola kicked off its 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign in October 2009, with the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour which gave thousands of Nigerians in Lagos and Abuja the rare opportunity to see the world's most coveted football icon live. It also became a platform for the Late President Umar Musa Yar'Adua to make history as the first Nigerian ever to touch and lift the World Cup trophy.

Wheelchair Power Soccer

Scottish soccer in Times Square, New York by Mike G. K. (busy)

Karlsruher SC Trikots

Rolling Thunder is the wheelchair power soccer team that I play for. The name itself describes the fun, wild adventure, and mayhem which will ensue. This game allows many people having an assortment of disabilities, to become competitive again for at least a couple of hours. The requirements are simple enough; fall under the age category of 5 – 105 years, drive a power chair, are disabled and yet still posses a spirit for competition. When you come to a game you will find out quickly why they call us: “the fastest things on four wheels since a grocery cart at a shopping spree!”

Last summer I found out about this zany soccer team when I needed some routine maintenance done on my power-chair. My loyal friend Patrick (from the local medical equipment branch) had come by to get it done for me and had brought with him an article from the next-county-over's newspaper. This paper had in it a celebrated and inspirational story which was highlighted by the rising sport of power-soccer. After talking with Patrick and reading this article, I was ready to explore these untested and dry waters.

1] This story shared a wealth of information with me and here are a few of them:

Ø Male and female players are often on the same team as well as opposing sides.

Ø The game is usually played in a gymnasium or on a regulation basketball court.

Ø Two teams of four power chair users attack, defend, and maneuver an oversized soccer ball in an attempt to score points on a goal.

Ø Power Soccer is a true dynamic development. It is the first competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for power wheelchair users.

Ø This action packed team sport combines the skill of the wheelchair user with the speed and power of the wheelchair itself.

Ø Participants include persons with: quadriplegia, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, head trauma, stroke and other disabilities.

Ø Whoever has found the will to win, and has the competitive spirit of an athlete is in no way limited or diminished because of confinement to a wheelchair.

Ø Practices are held twice a month all year, with an organized game happening once per month.

Ø Competitive games are from September through May and national tournaments are held 1-2 times per year.

So I got a schedule and rolled on down there. The moment that the pit crew had bolted on the guard to my leg-rests, I knew that I was in for a treat. The teams were divided into two groups and away we went— smash, bang, ram, and we hadn't even scored a goal yet! This rush of action gave me a feeling of excitement, importance, unbridled freedom, and of course, a power— which I hadn't felt since before my car accident. After shaking out some much needed apprehension, the two coaches huddled us all together and went over a few guidelines and rules.

In a memorable game for me a few weeks ago, I assisted on two goals to a fellow teammate and had my first 'hat-trick,' in which I scored three goals. The cheerleaders it appeared, had shown this jubilant side of themselves before, 'cause they were doing all sorts of screaming and dancing and bringing the crowd to their feet. Our team ended up winning that game but our celebratory attitudes were short-lived. The reason being: it truly doesn't matter who wins or loses; the fact that we are all out there getting involved in something is reward enough!

It is my feeling that disability is a state of mind; a person's spirit needs to be awakened, enriched, and exercised in order to feel separation from that which binds us. I would love to see some of my fellow wheelers just get out there and find something which puts them into a euphoric feeling again. After all, life is not a dress rehearsal waiting for the big show— rather, a gift not to be wasted on the sidelines watching others.

Shorecrest trailed for the first time all season before coming back to win the semifinal game. Everett’s David Gebert scored on a free kick in the third minute and the Seagulls held off Shorecrest until the 36th minute. Eric Baker and Sam Schober were in goal for Shorecrest.
While listening to NPR last night, I heard that Garfield High has a fantastic Jazz program and that both Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools are finalists again this year in the 2010 Essentially Ellington national jazz competition. I am proud of our neighborhood kids! Go Garfield! Here's more about the competition:The annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival is one of the most innovative jazz education events in the world. Each year, high school musicians from across North America travel to New York City to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances at the “House of Swing,” Jazz at Lincoln Center's home, Frederick P. Rose Hall. The Competition & Festival, held each May, is the culmination of the year-long Essentially Ellington program, during which members are invited to submit a recording and 15 finalist bands are selected through a rigorous screening process. Each finalist band receives an in-school workshop in their community led by a professional musician before coming to New York to put up their Dukes and perform before Wynton Marsalis and a panel of esteemed judges. In the past, finalist bands have had the privilege to work with such workshop clinicians as trumpeter Terell Stafford; Ronald Carter, the widely respected jazz educator; Justin DiCioccio, director of Jazz Studies at Manhattan School of Music; saxophonist Loren Schoenberg; Reggie Thomas, pianist and educator; as well as Jazz at Lincoln Center's own Victor Goines. Among the past judges have been former Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra conductor and arranger David Berger; Gunther Schuller, who, according to All Music Guide, “is composer, conductor, horn player, jazz performer, writer, administrator, publisher, and teacher, all wrapped up into one tiny bundle of seemingly endless energy”; Pulitzer Prize-nominated jazz musician and composer David Baker; and who else but Wynton Marsalis himself. The festival concludes with a final evening Concert and Awards Ceremony open to the public at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall featuring the three top-placing bands and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.

Was released this week the list of players invited to the World Cup in South Africa.
The list has no big surprises. What surprised most was the convocation of Grafite, who plays for Wolfsburg in Germany. Adriano was out.
Dunga, who has never coached football before the Brazilian Team, spoke about his belief that the general population does not agree. With Dunga in the Brazil team is going through a phase, which we call here the pot, where only the players that the coach has sympathy, and how they like to say, team spirit, they are part. he talks a lot of confidence, but he should worry about the confidence in choosing his wife, selecting what is important is the football pitch. Therefore, and for being a very rude and stubborn people, just called this group. A request for players who are in a better time yielded nothing.

In this list there are several players who did not pass a good time and not even close, are the best at their positions. Now we can only hope.

The exciting soccer game for PSP, FIFA Soccer 2005 is a game you should definitely go crazy for. This game is a very good game for the PSP and definitely should go under you're to buy list (or to do list…same thing). Choose your favorite soccer team and battle their rivals in this soccer frenzy game for the PSP. Not only can you play regular season soccer games, but there are over 100 teams you can select from.

Prove yourself if you're a real die-hard soccer fan and play against your friends. You can see which player is better than the other. You can also play international teams such as Brazil, Argentina, Italy, and many many others. The graphics in this game are amazing. You can see everything that is going on in the game. There is even a zoom in if you are having a hard time to see. It is picture-clear. No blurry parts are showed or displayed.

Don't forget about rewinding. If you think you scored a David Beckham type shot and thought your soccer movie was out of this world, you could do it again, and again, until you want to stop. Even though the great is great and amazing, there is one tiny flaw. The bad part of this game is that the loading process takes a very long time. Whenever you're about to play a game, it literally stops the whole game to start its loading process and all you can do is wait and wait and wait for the game to start (before you die of boredom and start sleeping). This may be the only part that keeps you from scoring your goals.

Also, this game lacks more features. Even though you can do the basic things with a new twist, there could be more features added to the game which would make a better game for the PSP. One thing that people should remember before buying this game is that it's a soccer game for the PSP, and nothing more than that. This game may include out-of-this world graphics, but it's just a soccer game and these types of games tend to be short. I mean, you play a game against a team, then another team, and there's nothing left to do but play soccer games. This game comes with everything you can imagine.

From playing the computer to playing your friends, from playing regular season games to playing with international games, this is the game you should buy without even thinking of the price.

See Ya, 2009! Hello, 2010! is a post from Chris PirilloAs I sit here preparing for the big event tonight, I can’t help but reminisce about Cory. While doing so, it just reminds me of the past ten years in general in my life. What a decade it has been!
